11/9 Reflection #5

I had a really good week.  I discovered a new way to study with my friends.  We all make a group google docs and dump any information we have.  I think going off of this week, I will continue to work on my project every night next week.  I have been working on my social studies day by day, and I really think it makes me more calm about the approaching due date.  I really think by learning to not procrastinate I am staying in line with my long term goals of getting into a nice college.  Although I am doing better than before, I think I should devote more time to my project.  I also think I need to pay attention to all of my projects.  I had an english grade argument due, and I waited until the night before.  I really did not have a good time creating my document.  I made a job training schedule about my grade, and I thought it was very difficult.  I tried to make a video and write an essay, but those were even less pleasant.  Aside from english, It was a good week

11/2 Reflection #4

I think the writing training camp (wtc) has had a positive impact on my writing.  Before my writing was dull, it lacked colors, details, and numbers.  All of my sentences looked the same.  After completing the packet, I certainly think my writing has improved.  I am trying to write with a more natural flow, like how I would talk in a conversation.  I think the most important thing I learned is that I need to let readers see what I am talking about.  I need to use any descriptions I can to paint a picture.  For instance the sentence there was cats, would now become three small brown house cats roamed around.  There is so much detail that you can include in anything.  Not only did the wtc focus in on my detail, it improved my flow of writing.  I understand now that you shouldn’t use words just to sound smart; use words that fit into the sentence.  That all plays into sentence structure.  I need to write my sentences in varied lengths.  Just like you don’t follow patterns when speaking, don’t follow patterns when writing.  All in all, I think I learned a lot.

10/19 Reflection #3

This was not a good week for me, but I still had a few pleasant surprises.  I found a new way to walk from Intro to Business ro French class. I usually walk through the courtyard, but as it gets colder, I wanted to find an inside route.  Luckily I did!  In addition to discovering, I learned this week.  In social studies, we were taught how to properly write an essay for my current and future social studies classes.  As I write more and more social studies essays, I will be able to build on the technique as I get better.  Although I am doing well in school, my discovering and learning are part of a long term plan to do well all through high school.  With good luck, if I am successful in high school. I will get into a good college.  From working on long term events, I think I have been productive, but moving on, I could work to be more productive.  In the future I will try to procrastinate less to get more done.  Overall it was an okay week.

9/28 Reflection #2

Over the last month, Mr.Heidt has tried to, and been successful in building a community in our english class.  To build a community we have shared our writings and guven each other feedback based off the writings.  As a class our relationship is constantly improving because of the share and receive system.  One noticeable change is that we are no longer nervous when we present and share what we write.  Also we are much less nervous on giving each other feedback.  We have moved out of the “good job” phase and now give constructive feedback that will help the writer improve.  Our change is quite noticeable, but I think we still have a ways to go.  For now, we have a positive community in english.

Instead of going to freshman orientation, I stayed at the beach, so only three short weeks ago I walked into the highschool.  The very first day wasn’t hard, but it wasn’t a walk in the park either.  As the end of the day neared I had one class left, Mr. Heidts honors english.  I walked into the classroom almost scared because there are so many ways to do english.  Racing through my mind were questions like who would be in my class, how would we write and read, how would he teach us, what would this class be like?  Turned out the class on my schedule would be one of my favorites.  This class is wonderful to take as a learner.  In english class we are all learner, I get to hear my teacher and peers talk about all the great things they have to teach and share with me, hopefully I will remember it.  I also like this class because we read and write a lot.  THis makes english a more fun real life class, opposed to worksheets.  I have already learned quote a few new writing styles that will help me succeed throughout life.  Not only is the class content terrific, but the community being developed is outstanding.  In this english class people feel comfortable to share, which is a very challenging level of trust to achieve.  I can not wait to learn all year in such a positive environment.  With it only being the start of my freshman year, I can tell that from being in this class my writing and reading standards will soare.  I am eager to learn better methods of reading, and maybe some new writing techniques! All in all these past three weeks have been outstanding, and so will the rest of my year, anad high school career.
